THE TOURNAMENT

Schedule

Brackets

The tournament will take place on January 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st in "Complexo Municipal Esportivo do Casal Vistoso", Rua João Silva, Lisbon, Portugal.

THIS IS AN OPEN EVENT. ALL ATHLETES OF ANY CITIZENSHIP ARE WELCOME TO COMPETE. TRIALS NOT REQUIRED.

The athletes must be at the warm up area, according to their fighting schedulle.
The athlete only can enter in the fighing area when is called by the official.
In case of victory the athlete must return to the warm up area, and remain there till the next fight.
No coaching is alowed in the fighting area.

The athletes from the following countries Brazil, France, Portugal, Canada and Japan must be affiliated with their countries national Brazilian jiu jitsu federation, and must bring federation ID at the event before their fights, otherwise you will not be able to compete.

Any registration of athletes from Portugal are under the Portuguese Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation approval.

REGISTRATION

ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED

The registration fees for the tournament are as follows:

  • The fee for registration in the Gi tournament , i.e., received from Tuesday, December 01, 2009 - Saturday, January 16, 2010 11:59pm is US $120.00 - equivalent to 80 euros
  • The fee for registration in the Gi tournament , i.e., received from Sunday, January 17, 2010 - Friday, January 22, 2010 11:59pm is US $140.00 - equivalent to 93 euros

REGISTRATION CHECK DAY

ALL ATHLETES MUST CHECK THEIR REGISTRATION INFORMATION ON THE REGISTRATION CHECK DAY - JANUARY 26th ON OUR WEBSITE WWW.IBJJF.COM

Corrections by e-mail:
The athletes can send e-mail with changes on the registration, by sending an email to ibjjf@ibjjf.com with the subject 'EUROPEAN CORRECTION'. The deadline is January 24th - 5PM - Lisbon time.

Registration Check day:
The athletes must make sure that their information is correct by checking the website on the registration list for their weight, belt, academy, age division, and name information. If there are any mistakes on the information (ei. typing mistakes by IBJJF) please send an email to ibjjf@ibjjf.com. (January 26th, 5PM - Lisbon time) .

The brackets will be released before the tournament . On wednesday, January 27th, the brackets will be available online at our website.

After the registration check day, no changes will be made and no refunds will be given.

During the tournament, any mistakes on the brackets that were not correct previous to registration check day will lead to immediate disqualification .


REFEREE COURSE

On Wednesday, January 27, prior to the European Jiu-Jitsu Championship, the IBJJF will be giving a Referee course.

Time:
10:00 to 13:30 and 15:00 to 17:00

Fee - 50 euros

EUROPEAN OPEN JIU-JITSU CHAMPIONSHIP 2009

DIVISIONS

Junior (16/17 year-olds)

> Only bluebelts
> Men and Women
> 16 and 17 year-olds will compete in the same division
> Athletes born on 1993 and 1994 are eligible to compete
> Fight time: 5 minutes
> Open class available for middle weight or above
> Check the weight list

Adults

The division is open for everyone above 18 years.

Fight time:

> bluebelts - 6 minutes;
> purplebelts - 7 minutes
> brownbelts - 8 minutes
> blackbelts -10 minutes

Masters (30-35)

> Athletes born between 1975 and 1980
> Fight time: Bluebelts – 5 minutes
>
Purple/brown/blackbelts – 6 minutes
> Men only

Seniors 1 (36-40)

> Athletes born between 1970 and 1974.
> Fight time: all belts - 5 minutes
> Men only

Seniors 2 (41-45)

> Athletes born between 1965 and 1969.
> Fight time: all belts - 5 minutes
> Men only

Seniors 3 (over 46)

> Athletes born in 1964 and before.
> Fight time: all belts - 5 minutes
> Men only

Women adult

There will be six weight divisions (check weight list)

Brown and blackbelts will compete in the same division

Adults only

Fight time:

> Bluebelts - 6 minutes
> Purplebelts - 7 minutes
> Brown/blackbelts - 10 minutes


EUROPEAN OPEN JIU-JITSU NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIP 2009

On this event the points will be tallied separately from the main tournament. The points breakdown is as follows: First place- 9 points, Second place- 3 points, and Third place - 1 point. The event is for white belts only, MALE: ADULT, MASTER or SENIOR 1, and FEMALE: ADULT, and is intended to give budding competitors experience in the largest European tournament alongside many of the great athletes in sport jiu-jitsu. There is no open class.

Adults

> The division is open for everyone above 18 years.
> Fight time: 5 minutes

Masters (30 - 35 years)

> Fight time: 5 minutes

Senior 1 (36 years and above)

> Fight time: 5 minutes

Women adult

> There will be six weight divisions (check weight list)
> Fight time: 5 minutes


7th NATIONAL TEAMS MATCH

The 6th national teams macth will be held on january 30th and/or 31st 2010, together with the 7th European Jiu-Jitsu Open Championship.

The macthes will be between adult blue, purple, brown and black belt teams, male only, each country are allowed 1 team per each weight division.

Each team is composed of 5 competitors, the first team to reach 3 victories will win the round. Each team must have a coach to write down the schedule that the fighters will follow.

There will be two weight divisions:

- Till 76 kg (gi On)

- Over 76 kg (gi On)

To participate in this event the athlete should sign-up the European JJ Open Championship.


WEIGH INS

Before his/her first fight, the athlete will check his/her weight with the Gi. There is only one opportunity to check the weight. If the competitor does not make his/her weight,they will be immediately disqualified. Please make sure that you are in the correct weight division. You can not change divisions ,if you do not make your designated division. No changes will be accepted in the tournament day, no refund.

All athletes should fight and weigh-in with tradicional weave fabric gi only (single, double or golden). All blue, all white or all black. No other kind of gi is allowed.

OTHER INFO

Each academy can only have two athletes in the same division (of age/weight/belt). If your academy has problems regarding the number of athletes in each division, please send an e-mail to IBJJF ibjjf@ibjjf.com.

Before each fight, athletes will be asked to show their Ids to the officials. Make sure you have it at hand.

Depending on the number of athletes in the tournament, some classes may not have an absolute division.
