The National Championship is the most traditional Jiu-Jitsu event held in Brazil. It is also the biggest and most complex Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament in the world. Held every year since 1994, the event attracts the main athletes from each state in a format to find out who are indeed the best fighters in the country.
The “Campeonato Brasileiro”, as it is called in Portuguese, involves competitors from all age and belt groups: from four-year-old kids to 56-year-old senior athletes; from yellow belt all the way to black belt. In order to host so many people, the Brazilian Confederation – CBJJ – builds an efficient schedule that is put to work over many weekends. Every year fans and supporters of all the main schools fill the stands with emotion and celebration, making the “Brasileiro” a must for all Jiu-Jitsu enthusiasts.
